The top 5 VC investors in US educational & training services

On the surface, it seems like investors are pouring capital into startups focused on education—online learning company MasterClass secured a $35 million investment in March, and more recently, CreativeLive, which also offers streamed classes taught by experts, landed $25 million. But in reality, investments in the sector are down.
Since the beginning of 2012, 274 investors have participated in at least one deal in the US educational & training services space, for a total of $1.85 billion across 189 deals, according to the PitchBook Platform. Capital invested peaked in 2015, with $687.5 million spread across 41 deals, but that total dropped to $109.6 million across 33 transactions the following year. So far in 2017, there have been just six completed deals worth a total of $35 million.
