After a prolonged battle, Cinven and Bain Capital have finally won in their attempt to acquire drugmaker Stada. The two investors' second offer for the company has received backing from more than the 63% of shareholders needed for it to be successful.
Bain and Cinven's deal is indicative of a healthcare sector that is attracting increasing private investor interest. PE backers were involved in 270 healthcare deals in Europe last year, per the PitchBook Platform, up from 249 in 2015. And while transaction numbers so far in 2017 look likely to not quite reach those heights, capital invested has already almost surpassed 2016's total.
