The past two years have been some of the most volatile times for British politics in living memory. Approaching the previous UK general election two years ago, each of the three main party leaders had been in their positions for at least four years, and the country was a committed member of the EU.
Fast forward to today and the UK has voted to leave the continental bloc, the Conservatives, Labour and the Liberal Democrats all have new leaders and the electorate is today voting after one of the most polarised campaigns in recent memory.
If recent PE activity is any indication, political uncertainty over the past 24 months has affected the UK's attractiveness as an investment destination. UK buyout volume slid 14% in 2016, per the PitchBook Platform—compared to 9% in Europe as a whole—and is on pace for another decline this year.
