Luxury comes at a cost, and this is where fashion resale comes into play. We've been seeing a number of VCs find a fit with online clothing exchanges, the most recent being Rent the Runway's $20 million haul. A few other companies in the resale space have tied on financings this year, too—Tradesy, thredUp, Hello La Mode and Real Real. In total, the venture funding for these five startups stands at $44 million with a median deal size of $7.5 million, according to the PitchBook Platform. And, there's one VC that boasts two of these companies in its portfolio: Highland Capital Partners. The firm has invested in both Rent the Runway and thredUp, which differentiates itself from the emerging hotbed of luxury resale by focusing on kids' clothing.
