Top Investor Tuesday — Most Active Private Equity Groups in Energy
November 10, 2015
Amid depressed oil prices, PE investors have had a slow year in the global energy industry with 237 deals to date—compared to 2014's decade record of 434—according to the PitchBook Platform. This could just be the calm before the storm, however, as PE shops have been amassing extraordinary sums for energy-focused funds over the past several months. Taking a closer look at the data, PE investment in cleantech has bumped up slightly this year, claiming 38% of energy deals (up 12% YoY). From a regional perspective, just under half of 2015's investments in the sector have been in the U.S., continuing a three-year slide in percentage and setting a low mark since 2009.
