Uber threatens to fire engineer at center of Waymo suit
May 22, 2017
Another day, another piece of Uber news: The ridehailing giant has reportedly threatened to fire Anthony Levandowski, the engineer at the heart of its legal battle with Waymo, unless he hands over the confidential files he was accused of stealing from his previous employer. Levandowski reportedly plans to refuse, citing his Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination.
Waymo, Google’s self-driving car unit, sued Uber earlier this year over allegations that Levandowski stole proprietary technology during his tenure at Waymo and brought it to his new job. Last week, a federal judge ruled that Uber may continue its autonomous vehicle program, but that it must return the files in question to Waymo.
