Udemy, a marketplace for online educational courses, has raised a $65 million Series D round led by Stripes Group, with participation from Norwest Venture Partners and Insight Venture Partners. As part of the financing, Ken Fox of Stripes Group will join the company's Board. The investment brings Udemy's to-date VC total to $113 million, including a $32 million Series C that generated a valuation of $170 million in May 2014.
Since launching in 2010, Udemy has grown its education and training platform to contain some 30,000 courses, with 2,000 being created each month; courses span topics such as photography, programming, Hadoop development and foreign languages. The site has more than 16,000 instructors from around the world, as well as about 7 million students from over 190 countries.
