There’s more than just peaches blossoming in Georgia lately; the southern state has also been fertile ground for VC deals. According to the PitchBook Platform, 172 companies headquartered in Georgia have received venture funding since the beginning of 2005, and two industries in particular have seen sudden growth in their shares of the total capital invested in the state in recent years: IT and B2B. While IT has had a strong VC presence across the board, it accounted for 39% of the total capital invested in 2011. Last year, however, the industry saw a sudden uptick as it jumped to 49%. Likewise, B2B saw a growth spurt as it leapt from less than 9% of total capital invested to 22% over the same time period.
