Vector Capital has acquired intellectual property advisory company IPVALUE Management from General Atlantic, The Boston Consulting Group and Goldman Sachs. According to reports, Silicon Valley Bank provided debt financing, and equity came from the $1.2 billion Vector Capital IV fund. Formed in 2001 through a joint investment vehicle of the selling firms, IPVALUE partners with IP owners like R&D labs and tech companies to generate revenue from under-monetized patents via licensing, as well as via patent sales or divestiture transactions when appropriate. To date, the IPVALUE team has closed over 150 IP monetization transactions, generating over $1.25 billion in gross revenue for its partners. Vector reportedly plans to invest more than $100 million in the company.
