Venture's Got Your Back

VC investors are anything but spineless when it comes to investing in companies that treat your back. In fact, according to the PitchBook Platform, they've invested in 55 U.S. companies in the Healthcare industry involved in spinal care and treatment—that's nearly twice the number of vertebrae in the human backbone! Pennsylvania-based Globus Medical, the largest privately held spine company, also raised the biggest venture financing for a spine company, racking up a $110 million Series E funding in 2007. Not only do spine co.'s score big rounds, but their investors are active in stacking up portfolio co.'s, too. One of Zyga Technology's backers, MB Venture Partners, has invested in six spine treatment and technology companies. De Novo Ventures also ranks among the most spine-friendly investors with another six investments, such as Spinal Modulation, a provider of spinal cord stimulator systems for chronic back pain treatment.
