Versa Capital Management has acquired Eastern Mountain Sports, an outdoor apparel and products retailer, from J.H. Whitney. Versa principal Mark Walsh will serve as EMS' chairman of the Board. J.H. Whitney acquired EMS in 2004. The company began as a climbing gear provider in 1967, and now offers apparel and equipment for camping, hiking, climbing, biking, paddling and snow sports through 69 stores in 12 eastern states. Philadelphia-based Versa makes control investments in middle-market companies. The firm has experience in the Retail sector, having acquired clothing chains Bob's Stores in 2008 and United Retail Group in 2012.
