Veronis Suhler Stevenson and its portfolio company Access Intelligence have acquired a minority stake in RETECH, an exhibition and conference event organizer for the renewable and alternative energy technology sector. Access Intelligence is a leading B2B information provider for the energy industry with two other major trade shows. It also publishes POWER magazine and The Energy Daily. VSS acquired AI in 2000 and has used it to acquire and invest in eight other business information companies.
Over the past three and half years private equity firms have invested in 32 other conference and trade show events companies, according to the PitchBook Platform. VSS has been the most active investor in the sector with six investments, four of which were add-ons to portfolio companies Access Intelligence and Advanstar Communications. Other active investors in business trade shows were Nautic Partners, Wind Point Partners and Alta Communications.
