Western Digital has led a consortium of investors in seeking some 50 billion yen (about $464 million) from Apple to support a bid for the memory chip unit of embattled Japanese conglomerate Toshiba, with Reuters reporting that the company's board is looking to reach a final agreement by September 13. However, it remains unclear if other investors from the group, including PE firm KKR, will supply more cash if Apple balks at the request. Bids for the unit have also come from groups including buyout shop Bain Capital, Korean chipmaker SK Hynix and longtime Apple manufacturing partner Foxconn.
