Since 2009, 78 venture capital firms have invested in companies that cater to the brain, according to the PitchBook Platform. The companies' specialties range from brain injury therapy to brain "fitness" programs. The majority of the financings have been hemorrhaged into the Healthcare industry—especially the Devices & Supplies and Pharmaceuticals & Biotechnology sectors. However, companies in the Software sector, which claims 12% of the deal flow, are also engaged in well-funded endeavors. This week, VC investors wised up to the merits of Vicarious Systems, an AI research firm developing technology that mimics the human brain, and Lumosity, the online brain training program mentioned below.
