Investing in the cloud is becoming a mainstay sector focus in the VC world. Cloud storage companies like Dropbox and Box.Net have revolutionized file sharing and attract hundreds of millions in capital to continue doing so. A total of 105 venture capital investors have invested in companies associated specifically with the Cloud Storage industry since the beginning of 2008, according to the PitchBook Platform. Deal flow has been on a clear upswing, with the count skyrocketing from a mere seven deals in 2008 to a formidable 28 last year. Now we're over midway through the 2012 and halfway to catching up to last year's deal activity, thanks to Bitcasa's recent round. While it's tricky to forecast the cloud, the horizon looks inviting for finishing off another year of healthy deal flow, especially considering that five cloud storage companies nabbed funding in May alone.
