Derek is a leader, strategist, and builder with experience in financial and operational management, growth management, analysis, team building, forecasting, budgeting, operations, human resources, legal functions, and due diligence with early stage high growth companies. Previously, Derek co-founded and served as Chief Financial Officer & Chief Operating Officer at A Mediocre Corporation, an ecommerce incubator experimenting with ways to make shopping fun again, such as with meh.com. Before Mediocre, Derek was CFO of daily-deal pioneer Woot. Derek formulated growth strategy and managed many financial, legal, HR, and operational aspects during Woot's high-growth phase, culminating in his management of due diligence and subsequent integration of the successful acquisition by Amazon. Further back in the mists of time, Derek's experience includes a Silicon Valley start-up in master data management (MartQuest), public policy finance roles with the White House Budget Office (OMB) and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and a posting as an English instructor in the Czech Republic. He co-founded Robin Autopilot.
