Description

Mr. Thomas Mulcahy is an angel investor. Mr. Mulcahy serves as the chairman of Aer Lingus. Prior to this, he served as the Chief executive officer at AIB. From Carrick-on-Suir, Mr Mulcahy joined AIB through the National Bank, where he had worked for 14 years. While he was there he won a scholarship to study commerce at UCD and then studied accountancy. After a year in Allied Irish Investment Bank he launched AIB's merchant banking subsidiary in London in 1973 and was general manager there until 1980. During the 1980s, he returned to Dublin to become banking director of AIB's merchant bank until 1985, when he was appointed to the bank's top management team as a general manager. From 1999 Mr Mulcahy headed up AIB Capital Markets, and is associated with the construction and consolidation of the bank's treasury, investment and international banking activities in the IFSC. He was appointed to the board of AIB in 1990, and was group chief executive from 1994 until his retirement from that position earlier this year. Mr Mulcahy is also the chairman of the board of trustees at DCU.
