Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) is an independent non-profit foundation based in New York City, New York. Established in 1870, the foundation is a treasury of rare and beautiful objects. MET was established for the purpose of establishing and maintaining in New York City a Museum and library of art, of encouraging and developing the study of the fine arts, and the application of arts to manufacture and practical life, of advancing the general knowledge of kindred subjects, and, to that end, of furnishing popular instruction. The assets of the foundation are managed by the board of trustees. The board is further assisted by the investment and finance committee to manage the investment assets.
