Alexander Nichols Ph.D General Information
Biography
Mr. Alexander Nichols served as Associate at Flagship Pioneering. He joined Flagship in 2014 as an Associate within Flagship VentureLabs, after completing the VentureLabs Fellows program. Alex works with VentureLabs partners as part of a venture creation team, exploring innovative ideas and opportunities, and developing critical scientific and business components that will lead to the firm's next breakthrough startups. Prior to joining Flagship, he completed his PhD in Biophysics at Harvard University, where he was jointly enrolled in the Harvard/MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology and worked in the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. Alex is the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards, including the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship, the MIT Idea Squared Fellowship, and the Harry Holmes Prize. While in graduate school, he founded an independent consulting firm, Crown Line Consulting LLC, through which he worked with venture-backed firms and local entrepreneurs. His is co-author on multiple patents and patent applications, and his work has been featured on CBS Boston as well as in Science Daily and other industry magazines. Alex graduated from Oberlin College in 2008 with Highest Honors in Biochemistry. In addition to his work as a scientist and inventor, he is a runner, cyclist, and accomplished backcountry skier, and has worked as a climbing instructor and consultant for the ski industry.
