Biography

Mr. Francois de Borchgrave is a Co-Founder and serves as Managing Partner at KOIS. He also serves as a Partner at Impact Expansion. He serves as a Board Member at Trainm. He brings more than 25 years of business experience including 17 years in private equity and 11 years in impact investing. He co-founded KOIS in 2010 and led its European operations. Prior to KOIS, from 2003 he was co-founder and Managing Director of FraMaCa, an investment firm specializing in private equity SME and Belgian real estate investment. In the same year, he and Charles-Antoine Janssen co-founded Toolbox, a not-for-profit organization aiming to support and improve the management of associations active in the Belgian social sector. He has completed more than ten impact investments in Belgium, Germany, Mexico, and the US, and many more in real estate as part of the investment committee and board of Inclusio, KOIS' social housing fund, which he co-founded in 2015. He has served on the Boards of four past and present investee companies. He holds several NGO board positions, primarily in the disability sector. From 2004-2013, he served as a Professor at the Solvay Business School in Brussels, teaching entrepreneurial finance, environmental management, and social entrepreneurship & impact investing. Before entering investment, he pursued a successful career in Telecoms & Technology. He spent 2001-2003 with Sony Europe as Europe Internet Strategy Manager, where he was responsible for the internet strategy of Sony Consumer Electronics in Europe. In 1999, he co-founded Smarterwork.com, a venture-backed internet platform for business services with eight subsidiaries worldwide. He began his career in 1995 as a Project Manager, and later Sales Manager, for Proximus in Brussels. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Master in Business Engineering from the Solvay Business School in Brussels.
