Biography

Ms. Ryan Kelley serves as Associate at Ballard Spahr. She is a member of the mechanical and medical technology practice teams in the firm's Patents Group. Before joining Ballard Spahr, from 2005 until 2012, Ms. Kelley worked for CardioMEMS, Inc., in Atlanta, initially as a Patent Agent and later as IP Counsel. There, she was responsible for all aspects of IP, including implementing and running an IP disclosure program, as well as drafting, prosecution, and management of the company's international patent portfolio. Additionally, Ms. Kelley collaborated with CardioMEMS business management in the development and maintenance of a patent strategy aligned with management's business objectives and developed a corporate IP portfolio commensurate with that strategy. Alongside her IP responsibilities, she drafted, negotiated, and led continuous improvement of a wide range of contracts, such as customer, consulting, and non-disclosure agreements. She also has experience counseling numerous emerging and start-up companies, helping them develop and execute a meaningful IP strategy.
