Biography

Mr. Jason Chumney served as Special Counsel at McCarter & English. He is a member of its Intellectual Property Practice. Jason regularly advises clients with respect to devising intellectual property strategies, preparing and prosecuting patents, and managing substantial patent portfolios. He also prepares validity, infringement and patent landscape opinions in a wide variety of arts. He has particularly extensive experience in the areas of small molecules, biologics, medical devices, and personal care products, as well as in energy and information technology. In addition to patent law matters, Jason structures, negotiates and drafts license agreements, including agreements between corporate and non-profit research organizations and agreements between universities and their faculty and student-inventors. Jason was previously at SorinRand, which combined with McCarter in 2014. He began his legal career in 2002 at the renowned patent law firm, Darby & Darby, P.C., in New York, where he advised clients in connection with and managed large patent portfolios and engaged in domestic and foreign patent prosecution. He also handled the intellectual property law aspects of transactional due diligence, including the preparation of freedom to operate and validity/infringement opinions.
