Emily Dertz Ph.D General Information
Biography
Dr. Emily Dertz served as Associate & Patent Attorney at McCarter & English. Prior to joining the firm, she was a Technology Specialist/Patent Agent for over four years at a mid-sized Boston law-firm, where she worked on patent matters for clients from small and large companies and academic institutions. Dr. Dertz has experience with both U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, patent validity opinions, freedom-to-operate opinions and due diligence evaluations of patent portfolios. Dr. Dertz received her Ph.D. in Chemistry from University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Dertz's doctoral dissertation involved the investigation of siderophore-mediated iron transport in Gram-positive bacteria. She conducted postdoctoral research on the lipid metabolism of Plasmodium falciparum, the causative agent of malaria, at Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Dertz has published scientific articles in several journals, including the Journal of the American Chemical Society and the Journal of Biological Inorganic Chemistry. Dr. Dertz has presented her work at various scientific meetings, including the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society and the International Conference on Coordination Chemistry.
