Biography

Dr. Patrick Ennis serves as Investment Committee Member at The W Fund. Dr. Ennis also serves as Board Member & Member of Administrative and Shareholders/Investors Grievance Committee (Stakeholders Relationship Committee) at Wipro. He served as Board Member at Carillon Technologies. He was a Board Member of Evolv Technology. He has more than 25 years of experience as a scientist, engineer, businessman and venture capitalist. He is currently at Intellectual Ventures where he invests in innovation, intellectual property, and technology commercialization world-wide, with a special focus on Asia. He is part of the founding team that built and runs an international open innovation network consisting of a community of more than 20,000 inventors. Prior to joining Intellectual Ventures in 2008, he was a Managing Director of ARCH Venture Partners where he identified, funded and built early-stage startups which emanated from universities and national labs in a wide range of markets, especially those involving interdisciplinary technology. These areas include software, computing, communications, semiconductors, materials science, energy and life sciences. Prior to joining the venture capital industry in 1998 as a Kauffman Fellow, he held R&D and business positions with Lucent Technologies, AT&T and Bell Labs. He led engineering projects for software development, speech recognition, network design and operations. He also worked in product management for the optical networking business and marketing where he led new product launches. Before joining Bell Labs in 1992, he conducted research in Nuclear Physics from 1984 to 1992 at universities and national labs in North America and Europe. He published many articles describing his work in scientific journals including The Physical Review, Zeitschrift für Physik, Physics Letters and Nuclear Instruments and Methods. He is an inventor on several patents and has written articles and book chapters on innovation. He has served on numerous corporate, educational and non-profit boards. His current directorships include: Benemilk Oy, Ignite Northwest, The W Fund and the Lockheed Martin strategic technical advisory board. He is a frequent invited speaker at conferences. His degrees include: a PhD, MS and MPhil in Physics from Yale University; an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania; and a BS in Mathematics and Physics from the College of William and Mary where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
