Biography

Mr. John Bernstein serves as Partner, Chairperson of Growth Equity Investment Committee & Co-Head of Private Equity Strategy at Generation Investment Management. Mr. Bernstein serves as Board Member at FNZ Group. He serves as Global Board Member and Investment Committee Chairman at The Nature Conservancy. He also served as Board Member at Argus Media and served as Managing Director & Co-Head of EMEA at General Atlantic. He has been an active investment professional in the private equity industry in Europe since 1995 and joined General Atlantic in 2008 to head the firm's European operations, which includes offices in London and Munich. He is responsible for all of the firm's investments in the broader European market, including Western and Eastern Europe, Russia, Turkey and the Middle East. He is a member of the firm's Executive and Investment Committees and serves on the boards of Hyperion Insurance Group, Axel Springer Digital Classifieds and Studio Moderna. Before joining GA, he served as a partner at Advent International, where he led the European telecom and technology investment practice. He holds an M.A. in economics and law from Downing College, Cambridge University, and is qualified as a barrister. He is a member of the Africa Advisory Council of The Nature Conservancy and a Board Member of the NamibRand Nature Reserve in Namibia.
