Biography
Mr. Borja Rios co-founded and serves as Co-Chief Executive Officer & Board Member at Merlin. He also served as a Venture Partner at FJ Labs. He began his professional career at Goldman Sachs where he spent three years as an interest-rated trader. In 2012, he built Matoko Fund, a social enterprise that was not only entrepreneurially fulfilling but also the genesis of his passion for mission-driven work. The Matako Fund provided micro-leasing services to women in rural regions of Northern Uganda. The success of the Matako Fund ignited his passion to create technology that would enrich lives similar to those he was able to help in Uganda. He knew he would need additional skills to scale even bigger projects, so he enrolled at MIT as a Legatum Fellow and obtained an MBA focused on Technology and Entrepreneurship. He helped create Merlin, a venture that allows him to satisfy his desire to create tech that serves and emboldens the underserved.
