Biography

Mr. John Tomes serves as a Senior Partner at Hawthorn Equity Partners. He co-founded and served as Managing Director at Torch Lake Capital Partners. He serves as Finance Director at Mercury Bio. He was a founding partner of Hilco Equity in February 2002 and has over 23 years of private equity and restructuring experience. He still plays an active role in managing Hilco Equity and currently serves as a director on the boards of Awrey Bakeries, LLC, Sioux-Preme Packing Co., Natural Food Holdings, LLC, Niman Ranch, Inc., Prairie Grove Farms of Iowa, LLC and Effigi, Inc, and previously served as a director for Rx Label Technology Corp., J.W. Fergusson & Sons, LLC, and Midwest Finishing Products, Inc. Previously, He was a founding partner of Wynnchurch Capital, a $164 million private equity fund focused on middle market equity investments. From 1989 to 1998, He worked in the Restructuring and Merchant banking Groups of GE Capital and spent the last five years of his tenure as Senior Vice President and Region Manager. While at GE Capital, he played a key role in investing more than $5 billion in acquisitions, buyouts, turnarounds, bankruptcies, and growth financings. Before joining GE Capital, He worked for Continental Bank and two years at a Chicago-based medical products consulting firm. He is a member of the Turnaround Management Association and The Association for Corporate Growth. He received a BA from Kenyon College and an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
