Joseph Duffey General Information

Biography

Mr. Duffey was educated at University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. Mr. Duffey started his career working for his family's retail heating business from 1976 to 1989. During this time he managed the business through the challenges of the 2nd oil embargo (1979) and negotiated the acquisition of several competing companies. Mr. Duffey served as company President from 1986 through 2000. In 1991 Mr. Duffey founded Compass Management Partners (CMP). Compass focused on the management of early stage businesses controlled by institutional and private investors. In 1998 he was the founding CEO of Renaissance Medical Management Company (RMMC), a network of more than 400 physicians serving 80,000 patients in a global risk sharing contract. RMMC provides physicians with the clinical, economic and professional resources necessary to ensure the delivery of superior quality, value-oriented healthcare, while returning control of delivery of that care to physicians. Mr. Duffey's most recent endeavor was as Founder and CEO of a start-up biotech company, Gel Med Sciences, Inc. The company is developing new pharmaceutical products based on novel platform drug delivery technologies. The company licensed its first product, for animal health, in September 2004, and is now in Phase 1 clinical trials for its first human healthcare drug. Mr. Duffey serves as the Chair of Audit and Investment Committee and Vice Chair of the Board for The Presbyterian Foundation for Philadelphia / New Courtland Elder Services.
