Biography

Dr. Cather Simpson is a Co-Founder & serves as Chief Executive Officer at Orbis Diagnostics. Dr. Cather Simpson is a Co-Founder & serves as Chief Scientific Officer at Engender Technologies. She is a Co-Founder and serves as Director at Luminoma Diagnostics. She serves as a Board Member at Dewpoint Innovations. She serves as a Partner at Pacific Channel. She is one of New Zealand's most highly regarded scientists and is a professor of physics and chemical sciences at the University of Auckland. Here she founded and directed The Photon Factory at the University of Auckland, a joint appointment between the physics and chemistry departments and co-founder of the Photon Factory laser lab, Engender and Orbis Diagnostics. She is a founder of three high-tech start-up businesses, including Engender Technologies, where she served as Chief Science Officer from 2011 to 2021 - growing this university spin-out startup into a company that was acquired by a large corporate. She recently was awarded the New Zealand Kiwinet Commercialisation Icon award in 2022 for all her leading work commercialising IP from research.
