Biography

Mr. Christopher Smith serves as Managing Partner at Playfair Capital. He serves as a Board Observer at Orca AI & Sightec. He served as a Board Member at Qureight, Ravelin, uMed & Heka. Vinehealth, AeroCloud, Continuum Industries,, and Thought Machine. He served as Investment Manager at Branden. He is also a member of the Senior Leadership Team at plan.com. In addition to his focus on the origination and screening of new investment opportunities, he works extensively with Branden's portfolio companies in a hands-on capacity to drive the delivery of key projects (such as the roll-out of new software products), advises on strategic and operational issues and grows shareholder value. Before joining Branden, Mr. Smith spent nearly a decade in the City as a transactional lawyer in the private equity team at Weil and the corporate team at Olswang. He has worked with some of the world's leading private equity and venture capital funds on predominately international acquisitions, disposals, and restructurings. At Weil, he spent time on secondment to the Silicon Valley office's patent litigation team, UK-based food manufacturer Premier Foods, and the Asset Protection Agency. He is an active angel investor with notable exits, including Nearby Systems (acquired by RetailNext) and MoPowered (LON: MPM). He also set up a telecoms business offering discounted international calling from ten countries in 2001 which he partially exited via an MBO in 2005.
