Biography

Mr. Kien Nguyen is a Co-Founder and serves as Managing Director & Vietnam Country Head at Asia Partners. He graduated from Macquarie University, Sydney, with a Bachelor of Applied Finance and Bachelor of Commerce (First Class Honors) and holds an MBA from the University of Chicago - Booth School of Business. Prior to this, Kien worked with Credit Suisse First Boston (Singapore), Commonwealth Bank of Australia (New York), OCBC Bank, and Temasek Holdings in his international career. From 2008 to 2017, Mr. Nguyen served as a member and subsequently the Head of Supervisory Board (equivalent to a U.S. Audit Committee Chairman role) at Vinamilk, Vietnam's largest dairy company. Vinamilk is the fourth largest public company in Vietnam, with a current market cap of US$9.2Bn as of March 2021. During his tenure on the Audit Committee, Vinamilk achieved an 11.1x ROC in U.S. dollar terms. From 2009 to 2017, Mr. Nguyen also served as the advisor and subsequently Vietnam Chairman for Cognita, one of the world's largest K-12 School operators, backed by Bregal Capital and KKR and recently acquired by Jacobs Holding. Mr. Nguyen was the Chairman of the Fund Representative Board for Vietcombank Fund Management Company, a joint venture between Vietcombank, one of the largest commercial banks in Vietnam (US$15.0Bn market cap as of March 2021), and Franklin Templeton (NYSE: BEN) (US$15.1Bn market cap as of March 2021). Earlier in his career Mr. Nguyen was an Associate Director at Temasek Holdings, an Assistant Vice President in the Corporate Development department of OCBC Bank in Singapore, a member of the structured finance team of Commonwealth Bank of Australia in New York, and a financial analyst at Credit Suisse First Boston in Singapore.
