Biography

Mr. Matej Matzele serves as a General Partner at Suricate Ventures. He also serves as Chairman of the Board at Modra-Zavarovalnica. He has more than twenty-five years of experience in the financial sector, including more than twenty years in various management positions in the areas of banking, insurance, asset management, and restructuring. He started his professional career during his studies as a stockbroker in the stockbroking company Bema. In 1996, he completed his studies in banking and finance at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana and obtained the title of university graduate economist. Between 1997 and 2004, he was employed at Bank Austria Creditanstalt, where his career path led him from the position of stockbroker to head of the securities department, head of the global securities services division, head of the asset management and securities trading division, and procurator of the bank. In the period 2004 - 2006, he was employed at Kapitalska družba, where he headed the department for managing capital investments. Between 2006 and 2009, he was the director of Poteza Investments. In 2009, he returned to the Kapitalska družba Group, where he held the position of executive director and member of the board of directors in PDP, a special company for business consulting. In September 2012, he joined Abanka Vipa as the executive director of the area for business with legal entities. After the merger with Banka Celje, in December 2015 he was a member of the board responsible for commercial areas, development and marketing, and digitization in the merged Abanka. After the takeover of Abanka by Nova KBM in September 2020, he was the bank's procurator responsible for digitalization until April 2021. In May 2021, he joined the company Triglav Svetovanje as an assistant director, where he held the position of director of the company from September 2021. From May 2023 onwards, he is the chairman of the board of Modra Zavarovalnica, responsible for the areas of asset management, planning, and controlling, legal and personnel matters, as well as business compliance and prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing. He also gained work experience through membership and chairmanship of supervisory boards of companies in Slovenia and abroad, he is a member of the Association of Managers and a member of the Association of Supervisors of Slovenia.
