Lawrence Bloomberg General Information

Biography

Mr. Lawrence Bloomberg serves as Advisor, National Bank Financial at National Bank of Canada. He is a Founding Partner and serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors at BloombergSen Investment Partners. He served as a Board Member at MaRS Discovery District. He was formerly co-chairman and co-CEO of National Bank Financial. From 1965 to 1974, Bloomberg worked at Nesbitt, Thomson, where he became a vice-president and director. From there, he moved to Pitfield, Mackay, Ross, where he was also a vice-president and director, before founding First Marathon in 1979. In August of 1999, First Marathon, of which Bloomberg was then president and CEO, was bought by the National Bank of Canada and merged with its brokerage arm Levesque Beaubien Geoffrion to create National Bank Financial. Bloomberg is a CFA Charterholder. He holds a bachelor of commerce from Sir George Williams University and a master of business administration from McGill University. He is a recipient of an honorary doctor of laws from both Concordia University and the University of Toronto. In January 2010 he was awarded the Order of Ontario for his volunteerism and philanthropic contributions to healthcare and commercializing innovation and education in Ontario. In 2011 he was named a member of the Order of Canada.
