Biography

Dr. David Shin serves as =Partner at BioAdvance. He is the Co-Founder of Varro Technologies. He served as the Chief Technology Officer of the company. He was responsible for the strategic development of the company's technology. At Catalytic Life Sciences, a biotech consulting firm, he assisted private-stage, therapeutics clients with company strategy, business development, and preparations for fundraising. At Limelight Bio, as Chief Operating Officer, he was instrumental in establishing complementary gene therapy platforms that later became the foundations for two new companies. Before Limelight, he was VP of Strategy at Alpine Biosciences, a nanotechnology platform company focused on the delivery of large molecules, which was eventually sold to Oncothyreon in 2014. In 2008, he helped launch Ayer Capital, a long-short, healthcare hedge fund based in San Francisco. During this time, he managed investments in therapeutics, diagnostics, and device companies for the fund. He held a leadership role at InnaPhase Corporation, a venture-backed company in Philadelphia that was acquired by Thermo Fisher in 2004. Previously, he served both as Director of Database Development and Chief Software Architect for BioSupplies.com, where he managed the development of their core technology and was a decision-maker regarding the technical direction of the company. He has also held Resident and Assistant Instructor positions at the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Ophthalmology, where he published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, abstracts, and a book chapter, all related to medical applications of image processing and computer vision. During this time he was also the technical advisor to a major, multi-center, clinical trial in Ophthalmology. He received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon and an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
