Biography

Dr. Axel Bouchon serves as Venture Partner at ARCH Venture Partners. He is also a Co-Founder and serves as Chief Executive Officer at Matter. He served as Senior Vice President, New Business and Product Concepts at Moderna Therapeutics. He served as Board Member at MSI. He leads new business concept activities. He has 15 years of experience and proven leadership in research and development, strategic business development, and operational business management. He joined Moderna in November from Bayer, where he served as Vice President of Global Strategy of the Bayer HealthCare Group with responsibility for Pharmaceuticals, Consumer Care Products, Medical Devices, and Animal Health. Prior to this, he was leading the operational business for Bayer HealthCare in Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei as Managing Director and established Singapore as a leading global R&D hub for Bayer with several local research collaborations. From 2007-2009, he was heading the global M&A department for the newly formed Bayer Pharmaceuticals Division. He successfully managed and closed several acquisitions, licensing, and partnership deals. He studied Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medicine, and Business Administration and holds a Ph.D. from the Eberhard-Karls-University Tübingen in Immunology. In 2008, he completed the Executive MBA & Leadership Program of the IMS Business School in Lausanne, Switzerland.
