John Eble MD General Information

Biography

Dr. John Eble founded and served as served as President and Treasurer at Indiana Pathology Endowment. Dr. Eble spent his entire academic career at Indiana University. After earning his undergraduate degree from IU, he completed his medical training at IU School of Medicine - graduating in 1976 with his MD and completing a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology. He later went on to earn his MBA from the Kelley School of Business in 1990. Joining the faculty in 1980 following his residency, Dr. Eble served as chief of laboratory services at the Roudebush VA Medical Center from 1982-2000. In 1999, he was named chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, a role he served in until 2022. Throughout his career, Dr. Eble represented the university on many societies and as editor of scientific publications. He served as editor-in-chief of the "Journal of Urologic Pathology" - the official journal of the International Society of Urologic Pathology. From 2000-2020, he was editor-in-chief of "Modern Pathology," during which time submissions quadrupled - raising the publication's impact factor significantly and elevating it to become one of the nation's top pathology publications. He served three terms as treasurer and was president of the International Society of Urologic Pathology, from 2003-2005. He was the 34th recipient of the F.K. Mostofi Award of the U.S.C.A.P., and in 2001 he was made an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. Dr. Eble established the Indiana Pathology Endowment, a foundation created to support the field of pathology. Recognized worldwide for his contributions to pathology, it was here at IU School of Medicine that Dr. Eble's passion for learning and fostering discovery truly thrived. Highly-regarded by his peers, Dr. Eble's mentorship of others in the department and beyond was unmatched - an endless appetite for knowledge and eagerness to share information propelling the department to new heights.
