Biography

Mr. Sunil Taneja serves as a Partner of Transaction Services, Mergers & Acquisitions & Tax. at Grant Thornton. He served as a Director, Mergers & Acquisitions, Tax Transaction Advisory Services at Duff & Phelps. He is part of the Transaction Advisory Services segment with a focus on tax matters. He has over eight years of experience as a tax specialist, primarily in the areas of M&A tax due diligence and structuring, corporate income taxes, accounting for income taxes and tax accounting methods. He has worked on deal sizes ranging from $1 million to over $1 billion on both buy-side and sell-side engagements including stock, asset and hybrid-type transactions as well as for C corporations, S corporations and partnerships. He has advised clients on assessing the advantages of electing certain step-up transactions including Section 338(h)(10) and Section 754 elections in order to maximize an investor's return on investment. He has extensive experience with non-income tax matters including sales and use taxes, payroll taxes and unclaimed property matters. He is Duff & Phelps LLC's lead contact for ASC 740 (Accounting for Income Taxes) matters. Prior to joining Duff & Phelps LLC, he was part of Deloitte's M&A Transaction Services practice, where he was responsible for evaluating all tax risks associated with potential acquisitions, as well as providing tax structuring services to private equity and strategic investors. Prior to his M&A tax experience, he was part of Deloitte's Large Corporate tax practice where he specialized in ASC 740 (Accounting for Income Taxes). He received his Masters in accounting with a concentration in tax from Northern Illinois University and his B.S. in accounting from St. Ambrose University. He is a licensed CPA in Illinois and is a member of the AICPA and IL CPA Society.
