Biography

Ms. Mary Lou Cameron serves as Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees at the New Mexico Educational Retirement Board. Ms. Cameron of Deming has represented the National Education Association of New Mexico on the New Mexico Educational Retirement Board (NM ERB) since 1999. Ms. Cameron is in her second term as chairperson of the NM ERB. She has also held the offices of Secretary and Vice-Chairperson during her tenure. Ms. Cameron is currently the Associate Superintendent of Support Services and Community Resources and a member of the Committee on Resolutions for the National Council on Teacher Retirement. Before moving to New Mexico, Ms. Cameron received her Bachelor of Education from North Texas State University in Denton, TX, and then began teaching in Corpus Christi for three years. She then received her Master of Education from Western NM University in Silver City. Ms. Cameron is in her thirty-sixth year of employment with Deming Public Schools. During her career, Ms. Cameron has been a teacher, literacy specialist, staff development coordinator, principal, and associate superintendent. Ms. Cameron served as president of the National Education Association of New Mexico (NEA-NM) from 1996-2001. She also represented New Mexico as a director on the board of the National Educational Association (NEA), a member of the NEA-AFT Committee on Unity, and a trustee on the NEA Members Insurance Trust Fund.
