Biography

Mr. Owen Lomas serves as Consultant at Travers Smith. He was previously a partner and Head of Global Environmental Law Services at Allen & Overy LLP. Owen has wide experience in advising on environmental and climate change law issues both on a standalone basis and in the context of business transactions. In independent surveys of client and peer group opinion, he has been variously described as a "first rate lawyer" who "cannot be matched", a "genuine star" with "consistent problem-solving ability" and a "huge range of knowledge" and as the "doyen of environmental law". Owen is a specialist in strategic management of environmental liabilities and in corporate environmental policy, management and audit. He has an extensive practice in the renewables and climate change sectors and in the chemicals, power and oil and gas industries. He is at the forefront of developing environmental law practice in relation to 'second generation' environmental laws relating to the use of economic instruments and permits trading, notably in relation to greenhouse gas emissions trading. Owen holds bachelors and masters degrees in law, qualified as a solicitor in 1980.
