Biography

Mr. Douglas Hoon is a Co-Founder and serves as Chief Technology Officer at Cometeer. Mr. Hoon served as Managing Director at GEN3 Partners. Prior to joining GEN3, Mr. Hoon spent 25 years in manufacturing, serving in a number of technical leadership roles for market-leading optics and advanced materials companies. Highlights of this period included (1) the development of an advanced Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) process suitable for both aerospace and commercial composite parts manufacturing, and (2) design/assembly of a dedicated factory for manufacturing thousands of meter-class high-precision flat optics for the Department of Energy's National Ignition Facility (NIF), a lab dedicated to a practical demonstration of inertial confinement fusion. He was also a co-founder of two start-ups responsible for breakthrough innovations in high-performance sporting goods. Earlier, Mr. Hoon served for 10 years as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Mr. Hoon holds 10 patents for inventions ranging from specialty surface treatments and high-speed composite flywheels to novel bicycle wheels and baseball bats, and an advanced computer-controlled optics polishing the machine. Mr. Hoon earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with honors from the United States Military Academy at West Point where he was the 1972 winner of the Silver Medal from the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacturing and Commerce for academic excellence. Mr. Hoon also holds a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT.
