Biography

Mr. Walter Bussells served as Board Member at Jacksonville Police and Fire Pension Fund. The City Council has appointed hem as a Trustee of the Police and Fire Pension Fund. Walt is CEO of Forbes Street Capital. His firm has interests in advanced technology companies focused on clean energy and water, both in the U.S. and internationally. Previously, he served as CEO and Managing Director of JEA, the eighth largest community owned electric utility in America. Mr. Bussells began his career with JEA as an internal auditor in 1975 and gained positions of increasing responsibility throughout his career, culminating in his appointment as CEO in 1995. Under his leadership, JEA achieved record growth while winning numerous regional and national awards for financial strength, environmental stewardship, operational excellence, innovation, and customer satisfaction. An active community supporter, he has served as Chairman of the United Way of Northeast Florida; Chairman for the Cornerstone economic development recruitment division of the Chamber of Commerce for Florida's First Coast; Chairman of the YMCA of the First Coast; Chairman of the City of Jacksonville's Task Force for Budgetary Efficiency, and Chairman of Mayor Peyton's Transition Committee. In recognition of his achievements and community support, Mr. Bussells has received numerous awards and accolades including Leadership Jacksonville's Distinguished Community Trustee; JaxPride Leadership Award, and University of North Florida Business School's Distinguished Alumni Prime Osborne Award. He has earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of North Florida. He holds the Six Sigma Green Belt Certification and is a certified facilator for the 7 Highly Effective People Program. Walt was born, raised, and has spent his entire life in Jacksonville.
