Biography

Dr. Mike Johnson served as Trustee at Charles K. Blandin Foundation. He served as provost of Itasca Community College (ICC) in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, until his retirement in June 2013. Prior to becoming provost, Dr. Johnson held a number of positions at ICC including faculty member in the business department, Director of College Services, head baseball coach and assistant hockey coach, Director of Student Services and Dean of Students. Dr. Johnson also served as acting provost at Rainy River Community College in International Falls, Minnesota, for 18 months and most recently as acting provost at Mesabi Range College in Virginia and Eveleth, Minnesota. Dr. Johnson has served on many volunteer boards throughout his career including Itasca Economic Development Corporation, Iron Range Resources Advisory Committee and Occupational Development Center. He is currently an active member of the Itasca Area Schools Collaborative, serves as a board member of the First National Bank of Coleraine and represents the Northeast Higher Education District on the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Technical Resource Allocation Committee. Johnson is also on the Executive Committee of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference and is a member of the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Johnson is a 1974 graduate of Grand Rapids High School, a 1978 graduate of Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida and earned his masters in business administration from Rollins College - Crummer Graduate School of Business in 1979 before beginning his career at Itasca Community College. He earned his Educational Doctorate in Educational Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota Leadership Academy in 2000 and also is an alumnus of the Blandin Community Leadership program.
