Derek Austin Ph.D General Information

Biography

Dr. Derek Austin served as Director, Telemedical Systems at Hubble Telemedical. Dr. Austin served as Director of Telemedical Systems since 2012. Prior to joining Hubble Telemedical, Dr. Austin worked at ORNL and Siemens Molecular Imaging. At ORNL, he co-developed X-ray micro-CT technology that formed the basis for the startup company, ImTek, Inc. ImTek was acquired by Concord Microsystems, which was itself acquired by CTI Molecular Imaging in 2004. In 2005, CTI was acquired by Siemens. While at Siemens, Dr. Austin was project manager and systems engineer for the Inveon imaging system. He holds numerous patents in the areas of imaging and image reconstruction. Dr. Austin received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University. As the recipient of a NSF Graduate Research Fellowship and National Academies Keck Futures Grant, he earned a M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
