Biography

Dr. Scott Horner serves as Regional Managing Director of North America at DSM Venturing. He serves as a Board Member at Perigon Pharmacy 360. He served as Managing Director at Middleland Capital. He served as Managing Director at VTC Ventures. He served as a Board Member at ZeaKal. He serves as an Advisor & Board Observer at Athian. He also serves as Investment Director at VTC Innovation Fund where he is responsible for portfolio management and evaluating investment opportunities. He leads Middleland's investments in and holds board or observer seats in Advanced Animal Diagnostics, Virgin Plants, and Plant Response Biotech. He serves as a Board Member at MycoTechnology. He was a Board Member of Blue Prairie Brands and Benson Hill Biosystems. Before joining Middleland in 2013, he was a Managing Director at Third Security, LLC, where he was responsible for managing investments in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. He served on the Board of Directors of Synchrony Inc. (acquired by Dresser-Rand Corp.) and took on interim operating roles within several portfolio companies, including President and Chief Executive Officer of Pinnacle Pharmaceuticals, VP Chemistry, Intrexon Corporation (NYSE: XON) and VP Business Development, Intrexon Corporation. He received his Ph.D. in Bioorganic Chemistry and an M.S. in Biophysics from the University of Rochester, and a B.S. in Biochemistry from the State University of New York at Albany.
