Biography
Mr. Ching-Yen Chen served as Partner at InstarAGF Asset Management. Ching-yen Chen is a highly experienced investment banking, financing and advisory professional with more than 10 years of specialized expertise in the infrastructure sector, including acquisitions, divestitures and capital raising. At InstarAGF, he is responsible for leading the origination of investment opportunities and managing transaction and financing processes. Ching-yen's experience spans public and private market transactions, both greenfield and brownfield opportunities, with an aggregate deal value of over $20 billion. Most recently, he acted as a financial consultant on a variety of advisory and financing mandates for infrastructure companies and projects. Prior to forming his consulting practice, Ching-yen was a Senior Vice President at Macquarie Capital Markets Canada Ltd. within the infrastructure advisory practice where he led the execution of several marquee transactions, including the value realization of assets within Macquarie Essential Assets Partnership, a private fund; the proposed $10 billion sale of assets of New Brunswick Power to Hydro Quebec; and Borealis Infrastructure's $2 billion hostile takeover of Teranet Income Fund and subsequent $1 billion 50-year extension of the land registry and writs agreement. Ching-yen was also formerly a Director at CIBC World Markets within the Power & Utilities Global Investment Banking division, where he was responsible for investment banking advisory services, equity and debt financings and M&A transactions. Notable transactions included providing fairness opinions on the $5.25 billion refurbishment agreement for the Bruce Power nuclear facility and the formation of some of the largest local electricity distribution companies in Ontario. Ching-yen holds an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo, with options in Statistics and Management Science. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
