Biography

Dr. Lorence Kim is a Co-Founder and serves as Managing Partner at Ascenta Capital. He served as Venture Partner at Third Rock Ventures. He serves as Board Member at Flare Therapeutics. He serves as Board Member at Rheos Medicines and Abata Therapeutics. He serves as Venture Partner at Third Rock Ventures. He serves as Board Member at ADARx Pharmaceuticals. He served as Chief Financial Officer at Moderna Therapeutics, guiding $4.4 billion of capital raising to support the company's platform efforts in mRNA medicines and the discovery and development of a pipeline of 20+ candidates across infectious disease, oncology, and rare disease, and autoimmune disease. Prior to Moderna, he spent 14 years at Goldman Sachs, where his last role was the co-head of the US biotech banking practice. He also served as Board Member at Seres Therapeutics. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1999 as a summer associate and was named managing director in 2008. As a member of the healthcare investment banking group for nearly 14 years, his responsibilities included corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, with several billion in equity and equity-linked financings, and more than $55 billion in M&A transactions. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the American Red Cross. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, he worked in various medical research and consulting positions concurrent with his graduate studies. He graduated from Harvard University, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with an A.B. in biochemical sciences in 1995. He also earned an MBA in healthcare management as a Palmer Scholar from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2000 and an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Medicine in 2000. He serves as Board Member at Odyssey Therapeutics.
