Biography

Mr. Walter Obermeyer serves as Chairman, Co-Chief Investment Officer & Partner at Obermeyer Wealth Partners. He oversees our team's work on risk management, portfolio construction, and securities analysis. As our firm's chairman, he sits on our Executive Committee and works with its other members on firm strategy and operations. He founded Obermeyer Asset Management after serving as regional vice president of Heritage Trust and Asset Management from 1994 to 1997. He has a broad range of business and financial experience, including managing his family's ski apparel business and founding a hydroelectric generation company. He earned his MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA, cum laude, from Harvard College. He chairs the Denver Museum of Nature & Science Foundation Board and is on the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies board. He also recently completed a 12-year term on the Gates Family Foundation Board, where he also chaired the Investment Advisory Committee. He has been recognized for more than a decade in leading industry rankings, most recently by Forbes ("Top Wealth Advisors" in 2023 and "Best-in-State Wealth Advisors" in 2023) and Barron's ("Top 100 Independent Advisors" in 2022 and "America's Top Independent Advisors" in 2023). He is also one of Barron's 2019 Hall of Fame advisors in recognition of being ranked on the Top 100 list for over ten years.
