Brian Hansen General Information

Biography

Mr. Brian Hansen serves as Partner at Vortus Investments. As a senior executive with Pioneer Natural Resources Company ("Pioneer") prior to joining Vortus, Mr. Hansen held a broad range of operational, managerial, and financial responsibilities over his 10-year tenure with the large independent oil and gas producer. Leading multi-disciplinary teams as an operations and reservoir engineer across a variety of assets and basins including horizontal shale development, legacy oil fields, and emerging gas plays, Mr. Hansen developed a track record of successful field development and long-term strategy management. He directly worked with Pioneer executive management on various finance initiatives, including acquisitions and divestitures spanning bolt-on acreage to large scale international joint ventures focused on domestic, onshore E&P assets. In addition, he worked with Pioneer's highly rated Investor Relations team to broaden the company's investment base through technical presentations and valuation analysis. Most recently, Mr. Hansen was successfully leading a team of approximately 50 engineers, geologists, technicians and analysts to organize and implement the development strategy of Pioneer's emerging horizontal drilling program in an effort to maximize value for its Northern Midland Basin acreage in the Permian Basin - Pioneer's largest asset. As Vice President of Subsurface and Development for the Permian Asset Team, Pioneer's largest and most active asset, Mr. Hansen led a team of approximately 50 engineers, geologists, analysts and technicians to organize and implement a development strategy for the Permian Basin and directed Pioneer's transition from a NAV-focused appraisal program to a production-growth-focused development program. The team targeted over six intervals across over 600,000 acres, produced industry-leading well performance in the Wolfcamp and Spraberry Shale intervals and led the industry's concept of stacked play potential and down spacing in the field. Mr. Hansen was Pioneer's key engineering contact from the Permian Team during Pioneer's marketing of assets in the Southern Midland Basin and subsequent successful $1.7 billion joint venture with China-based Sinochem, establishing a new benchmark for a Wolfcamp-only transaction. As a Senior Supervisor within Pioneer's Investor Relations team, Mr. Hansen conveyed company strategy to analysts and shareholders and shared market perceptions with company management. He broadened Pioneer's investment base through energy conferences, marketing trips, public presentations and evaluation of internal and external financial models. An independent survey of 30 existing and past shareholders, conducted during Mr. Hansen's tenure in Investor Relations, classified the team as "best in class". Pioneer had the best performing energy stock and seventh best performing stock in the S&P 500 from 2009-2010. Prior to joining the Investor Relations team, Mr. Hansen worked as a Business Analyst for the COO/President and identified specific areas of potential cost reduction within the company. Pioneer ranked second amongst peers in production cost reduction. Mr. Hansen was elected by peers to lead a program to develop less experienced engineers, geologists and land professionals. He integrated the group with leadership at the company to align mentoring and long-term career plans and increased active membership by 50%. As a Senior Engineer within Pioneer's Business Development team, Mr. Hansen quickly analyzed data packages to determine economic value, identify upside potential and associated risks in producing and non-producing reservoirs. He was a key engineering contact in data rooms to divest of Pioneer assets including properties off the coast of Louisiana, on the Gulf of Mexico Shelf and in Tunisia. Mr. Hansen's career began as a reservoir and operations engineer with Pioneer over assets in Inland Waters, South Texas and the Permian Basin, where he had responsibility on over 900 wells. He designed completions, recompletions and water floods and developed annual budgets and reserve reports. Mr. Hansen holds an MBA in Finance from Southern Methodist University and a BS in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University.
