Biography

Dr. John Hamer is a Co-Founder and serves as the Chief Operating Officer, Board Member and Managing Partnerat OLEDWorks. His record of launching successful products, ranging from organic chemicals to AM-OLED displays, is a tribute to his expertise in building strategic relationships within and across industries and geographic boundaries. John is a visionary leader who identifies technical solutions that are exceedingly creative but profoundly pragmatic. This pragmatism is driven by his passion for building sustainable, affordable manufacturing in the United States. As Chief Operating Officer for OLEDWorks, John defines the framework for manufacturing infrastructure, capability, logistics and supply chain for OLED lighting production. He deftly manages the risk of novel equipment design and process development with a consistent focus on low cost production. His leadership is the catalyst for the formation of a team that is facile, inventive, and committed to delivering high quality affordable OLED lighting engines. Prior to founding OLEDWorks, John was at the Eastman Kodak Company where he held several technical leadership positions. Notably, he was Senior Manager of the Technology Department at Sanyo-Kodak Display (SKD) which produced the world's first AM-OLED products on the world's first AM-OLED manufacturing line. He also led a group responsible for developing disruptive OLED technology, including low cost displays on flexible substrates using chiplet-based backplanes. In addition to his pioneering work with OLED's, John was business director and commercialization manager for synthesizing materials including dyes, inks and OLED organic chemicals. He has 27 years of product design and process development experience at Kodak, including 6-Sigma expertise. He has 24 granted U.S. Patents and 10 published pending patent applications in the area of OLED process technology. John earned his Bachelor's and Masters Degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto, and his Ph.D, also in Chemical Engineering,. from the University of Wisconsin.
