Biography

Mr. Vipul Mankad served as Global Investment Officer & Managing Director, SEAF India Agribusiness Fund at Small Enterprise Assistance Funds. He also is a member of the SEAF Global Investment Committee. He is involved in various aspects of SEAF, from fund formation to investment and exit activities. Vipul is an investment professional with longstanding experience (27 yrs) in raising and managing VC Funds through different economic cycles in India. He has led many successful transactions across multiple industry sectors with an emphasis on early and growth-stage investments. Vipul served as President of SIDBI Venture Capital Ltd -SVCL (April 2000-June 2011), a VC firm backed by Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) - a large DFI with a national footprint. SIDBI Venture invests in early and growth-stage companies in India. Vipul joined SIDBI Venture at its formative stage and was instrumental in building its team and operations. He was responsible for investment functions of the funds (US $140 M) raised from major Banks and domestic institutions. He led many (50+) Early / Expansion stage transactions in IT and other growth Sectors. He also made many (30+) profitable exits with attractive returns. Many portfolio companies attracted Series "B" rounds from reputed funds like Sequoia, Clearstone, IDG, ePlanet, Fidelity, Mayfield, BTS Advisors etc. Prior to SIDBI Venture, Vipul was Vice President of GVFL Limited -GVFL (July 1990-April 2000), a firm focusing on early stage investments. GVFL raised three funds from multilateral financial institutions (CDC- UK, The World Bank, domestic financial institutions and private sector Corporations. At GVFL, he made investments in technology-based start-ups and growth-stage companies having a clear competitive advantage. Before GVFL, Vipul worked as Credit Officer with Gujarat Industrial Investment Corporation -GIIC (Aug 1983-July 1990) a prominent Development Bank providing debt to small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Vipul is an MBA and Engineer. He also holds a Diploma in Finance from Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI).
